Ruodlieb 194–210

The Ruodlieb is an eleventh-century Latin epic, likely composed at the monastery of Tegernsee, recounting the adventures of a knight in the service of a generous king.

 

Tier 1

I. Rēx Lūdum Petit

rēx tabulam petīvit. rēx sellam pōnī iussit. tum rēx mē sedēre iussit. rēx mēcum lūdere volēbat.

ego lūdere nōluī. dīxī: "ego miser sum. nōn dēbeō cum rēge lūdere!"

sed rēx mē spectāvit. ego nōn potuī recūsāre. tandem dīxī: "bene, lūdāmus." ego volēbam ab eō vincī. dīxī: "sī rēx mē vincit, nihil malī est. sed timeō, domine. sī fortūna mē iuvat et ego vincō, tū īrātus eris."

II. Lūdus

rēx rīsit et dīxit: "nōlī timēre, cāre! sī numquam vincō, nōn īrātus erō. sed volō tē bene lūdere mēcum. volō novōs modōs lūdendī discere."

statim rēx et ego lūsimus. ego ter vīcī! multī prīncipēs rēgis hoc vīdērunt et valdē mīrātī sunt.
