P. Vergilius Maro, Aeneid 12.945–952

The closing lines of the Aeneid. Aenēās, having seen the sword-belt of Pallās on the shoulder of Turnus, abandons his hesitation and delivers the final blow.

Aenēās cingulum Pallantis vīdit. memoria dolōris eum accendit. īra terribilis eum cēpit. dīxit:

 

“tu spolia amīcī meī geris. effugere vīs? Pallās tē hōc vulnere interficit. Pallās poenam sūmit.”

 

haec dīxit. tum ferrum in pectus Turnī condidit. membra Turnī frīgēscēbant. vīta cum clāmōre sub umbrās fūgit.
