Quintus Horatius Flaccus, Carmina 1.2.1-12

Horace describes how Jupiter has already sent terrible snow and hail and struck the sacred heights of Rome with his thunderbolt, terrifying all peoples with the fear that the dreadful age of Pyrrha might return, when Proteus drove his flocks to the mountaintops and fish clung to the treetops while frightened deer swam through the floodwaters.

Pater Juppiter iam misit satis dirae nivis (snow) et dirae grandinis (hail) et terruit Urbem Romam, iaculatus (striking) sacras arces rubente dextera,

Juppiter terruit omnes gentes ne grave tempus Pyrrhae, quae tristis de novis monstris, rediret, cum Proteus egit omnem gregem visere altos montes,

et genus piscium habetur summa ulmo, quae fuerat domus columbis, et timidae cervae nataverunt alta aqua.
