Titus Livius, Ab Urbe Condita 1.58.7

Livy describes how Lucretia bursts into tears at the arrival of her family, tells her husband Collatinus that nothing is well since her chastity is lost, declares that though her body was violated her mind is innocent and death will be her witness, and demands that they pledge to see the adulterer punished.

Lucretia lacrimat cum pater et vir adveniunt. Vir eius interrogat "esne salva?" Lucretia respondet "minime, nam, sine pudicitia, quid salvi est feminae?

Collatine, vestigia viri alii sunt in lecto tuo, sed tantum corpus violatum est, animus meus est innocens; mors erit testis.

Sed promitte mihi adulterum punitum iri.
