tua persōna in forō Mīsēnī stat. est merīdiēs et multī servī fēminaeque hūc illūc celeriter currunt. officiālēs hominēs quoque sunt in forō quod Mīsēnum est portus imperiālis. tū circumspectās forum dum putās dē Sinistrō et dē Dēmiūrgō. quid Sinistrus dēsīderat? cūr ille Recentiōs cēpit? subitō tū cōnspicis virum familiārem quī sedet prope tabernam. ille dicit cum... Marcō!
tū audīs vōcem Sinistrī in aure, "dēbēs ad eōs ambulāre... sed... illī nōn dēbent tē vidēre. potesne sē celāre?"
"Gāius Plīnius, mī amīce," inquit Marcus, "tū dēdistī auxilium Societātī Pontentium et nunc iterum id dēsīderāmus. iuvistī Vespasiānum et nunc tū dēbēs iuvāre imperātōrem Tītum. pater meus erat in Stabiīs et cōnsilium relīquit. ego volō tē crās nāvigāre. ego epistulam ad amīcum nostrum, Pompōniānum, mīsī. ille clāvem habēbat et clāvis cistam aperit. imperātor Tītus cistam dēsīderat. iuvenēs autem inscrīptiōnem invēnērunt et cistam quaerēbant...."
subitō puer tibi Recentiīsque occurit et rogat, "tū vīs togam novam emere?"
Once again you hear the voice of Sinistrus in your ear. "Oh dear, you are beginning to attract attention to yourself. Quick, you need to blend in and at least look like you belong here in Mīsēnum. I suppose this is the part where I say,
'Prompt : According to the world-view of your character, act like a Roman in the forum of Misenum. You should describe what your character sees going on in the forum and describe appropriate activities for your character to be doing in order that you not be discovered by Marcus or Pliny.'
Sinistrus continues, "I'll even throw you a bonus. Depending on how well you 'act like a Roman', perhaps I'll show you more of their conversation in your team discussion area after this little exāmen."
CULTURALIA
Operatives, you will most certainly recall meeting Gaius Plinius Secundus on the beach of Stabiae. As you should remember from our previous mission, Pliny the Elder was the commander of the fleet stationed at the naval port city of Misenum. In order to succeed in this task of Sinistrus, you must blend into the crowd by 'acting like a Roman.' For your convenience, we've loaded some important modules about Roman daily life, women in ancient Rome, and life in the forum. You may wish to consider other aspects of daily life to discuss in your response such as the following:
- What did people do for fun?
- What did people do for work?
- Where did people socialize?
- What was daily life like for you?
- What was family life like?
- What was education like?
- What kind of food did you eat?
- What was the role of slavery in society?
- How did the government work?
- How did the legal system work?
- What religious beliefs did people have?
- What were houses like?
You will not have time to address all of these areas in your repsonse so choose between 3-5 to explore.
