Episode 5.a
>Ascending from Tellus's Chamber, mythic time, returning to the Caucasus<
The seam closed. Prometheus looked at you and turned away, then the light folded shut and you were standing in Tellus's chamber with the argument still in your mouth and nowhere to send it.
That was last time. You have had days to sit with it.
Now you are climbing. The trail from Tellus's chamber leads upward through stone that softens as you rise, raw compressed grain giving way to ore-seams, ore-seams to cut rock, the deep cold thinning as the world above draws closer. The flame in your hand is different now. It burns steady and quiet, a carried thing rather than a guide, and the change feels like the end of something.
You pass through places you have been before. The forge: you hear it before you see it, Vulcan's hammer and the Cyclopes striking in rhythm, the red glow washing across the passage walls. It is whole. Further up, the round room: Vesta's hearth burning clean and straight, the pale stone warm, the air still. It is whole. The world you mended on the way down is still real and working on the way back up. You built that, all of it, with names and fire and your own hands.
But the TSTT is still not right. You can feel it in the passages between the healed places, where the stone thins like worn cloth and something flickers behind it. The stops hold. The space between them does not quite. The falx is still missing from its place at the beginning.
Quintus has been quiet for most of the climb. When he finally speaks, he does not try to explain the failure away. "We told him the world has an order and he's breaking it. He knows that. He's the Titan of forethought. He knew it before we did." He walks for a while. "We told him about the cosmos. We didn't tell him about the people in it."
He stops and looks at you. "What does Prometheus care about? Not the ordo. Not the chain of events. What has he always, from the very beginning, cared about?"
The trail opens ahead of you onto grey rock and open sky. The Caucasus. You have been here before, at the very start, when the chains were broken and the rock was empty. You can see the ledge from here.
Prometheus is on it. He is waiting.
Prompt: Quintus asked you what Prometheus has always cared about. You know the answer. Before you step onto that ledge, decide together: what will you say to him this time, and why will it be different from what you said before?
