nāvēs Aenēae ā lītore discessērunt, ventō celerēs. Carthāgō post eās minor fīēbat.

 

Recentiī in nāve stābant, prope Lapidem, quī iam inter fūnēs tūtus erat. ad occidentem nāvigābant, ad terram novam quam nēmō adhūc vīdit, ad fāta.

 

tum Recentiī post sē respexērunt et vīdērunt: in lītore Carthāginis ignis magnus ārdēbat, et flamma alta in caelum surgēbat.

 

"illa flamma," Sextus quiētē dīxit, "Dīdō est. rēgīna periit, quia Aenēās discessit. hoc poēta canit. hoc Rōmānī semper in memoriā tenēbant, cum dē Carthāgine cōgitābant."

 

Sextus ad Recentiōs sē vertit. "vōs hoc fēcistis," Recentiīs dīxit. "nōn tōtum, sed partem. vōs eritis inter causās bellōrum quae posteā venient. estne hoc bonum? estne malum? nesciō. sed nunc pars historiae estis."

 

Lapis ad occidentem ībat, et cum eō historia ipsa.
