Episode 6.1.b

>Vīlla Caeciliī, Pompēiī, Ītalia, August 79 CE<

Caecilius fābulae vestrae crēdit. quamquam parva sunt quae dīcitis, magna sibi videntur, quod ipse magnus esse vult.

deinde sē ad vōs vertit. vultus eius est gravior nunc.

"itaque," inquit, "dē futūrō cōgitāre dēbēmus. servus Caesaris dīves esse dēbet. amīcīs imperātōris pecūnia nōn deest. pecūnia mea vōbīs adest. dēsīderāvistisne in Rōmā habitāre? quid in vītā agere vultis?"

Caecilius manūs in mēnsā pōnit, sīcut argentārius quī ratiōnēs facit. nunc enim sē ipsum in mediō reī māgnae videt: vir quī iuvenibus Caesaris viam ad fortūnam dat.

"quīnque viae patent virīs novīs in urbe Caesaris. ecce:

mīles, quī arma capit et imperātōrī servit in legiōnibus,

ōrātor, quī in forō et in senātū causās dīcit,

historicus, quī tempora antīqua intellegit et aliīs rēs gestās explicat,

poēta, quī carmina dē rēbus māgnīs scrībit,

agricola, quī frūmentum et pecūniam Rōmae mittit.

"vōs ipsī ēligite. vōbīs pecūniam dabō. amīcīs meīs dē vōbīs dīcam. Pompēiī iam vōs nōn tenent, sed Rōma vōs exspectat."

Tiberius adhūc tacet. sed Tiberius nōn est laetus. fortasse Tiberius cōgitat dē patre, dē urbe, dē monte quī suprā Pompēiōs stat.
