Caecilius ē trīclīniō in cubiculum it. nunc tū es sōlus cum Sinistrō.

 

rīsus urbānus dē vultū Sinistrī cadit. oculī frīgidī sunt.

 

"sciō tuum labōrem," inquit Sinistrus.

 

tū es tacitus.

 

"tū labōrās prō Sextō. quid quaeris? gladium? hastam?"

 

tū tamen es tacitus.

 

"minimē." Sinistrus rīdet. "nōnne Lapidem quaeris?" iterum rīdet.

 

"audī. est perīculum grave in viā tuā. Sextus Aemiliānus, sīcut patruus tuus, stat in viā mundī novī. potentēs hunc mundum aedificant. iūra antīqua bona sunt in fābulīs antīquīs, sed in mundō nostrō est imperātor Rōmae, et iūra sunt eius. quōmodo potentēs superāre potes?"

 

Sinistrus propius accēdit. vōcem mittit, nōn ad Recentiōs sōlum.

 

"hic mundus fābula est. sed quis fābulam scrībit?"
