Episode 6.2.b
>On Aeneas's ship, at sea near Carthage<
You are on Aeneas's ship now. It rides out through the swell, and Carthage falls away behind you on the shore, small already and growing smaller. The sails are full. The sailors are in good spirits.
"The Carthaginians were no friends to us," one of them says. "They wanted us to work. They wanted our labor, but not our friendship."
Another laughs. "We're free now. Now the sea is ours."
Then a third sailor shouts. "Smoke! There's smoke rising from Carthage!"
Everyone runs to the stern. You go with them and look back. Far off, on the Carthaginian shore, an enormous column of smoke is climbing into the sky, black and high. Something large is burning, though you cannot see what.
The sailor shouts again. "Look at the city, master! All of you, look at Carthage! The smoke is going up into the sky! The city is burning!"
Aeneas comes. He looks at the smoke. He does not shout. He does not weep. But there is something heavy in his face, as though he knows who, or what, is burning there.
He turns to you, and he hesitates.
"What do you feel, young ones? Should we turn back to Carthage? Maybe the fates were wrong."
Prompt: Persuade Aeneas not to turn the ships around. He loves prophecies, so you may invent one for him if you wish.
