Octāviāna ante Aenēam stetit. "Aenēā, audī!" inquit. "dē Lapide cōgitā. Hector tibi dīxit: Lapidem cape. cūr?"

 

Aenēās Lapidem spectāvit. Lapis in aulā iacēbat; eandem lūcem ēmittēbat quam in Pompēiīs.

 

Octāviāna perrēxit: "sī tū hīc perībis, Lapidem Graecī capient. Agamemnōn Lapidem iam diū volēbat; in cōnsiliō bellī dē Lapide mūrmurāvit, et nōs audīvimus."

 

Aenēās Recentiōs dūrē spectāvit. "quōmodo hoc scītis? quis estis vōs?"

 

"hoc nōn rēfert. sed illud rēfert: sī Agamemnōn Lapidem capiet, deī Trōiae pereunt; Penātēs pereunt; omnia quae Trōia fuit pereunt, nōn in bellō, sed in aeternum."

 

Aenēās Lapidem spectāvit. Lapis lūcēbat; lentē pulsāre vidēbātur.

 

"deī mihi hoc mandāvērunt," lentē dīxit. "Hector mihi hoc mandāvit. ego fugere nōlō, sed Lapidem Graecīs dare nōn possum."

 

Aenēās gladium dēposuit.

 

"venīte. Lapidem portēmus."
