"clientēs Caeciliī," inquit Octāviāna, "sumus. tabellās habēmus. tabellae dīcunt Caecilium pecūniam Marcō datūrum."

 

custōs ad Recentiōs spectat. manūs vacuās videt. vultus custōdis dīcit, "nōn videō tabellās aliquās."

 

vōce dīcit custōs, "nōn videō aliquās tabellās. quid errātis? quod crīmen facere vultis?"

 

Octāviāna, "minimē" inquit vōce matrōnae, dominae servōrum, "ō stulte serve! nōn vidēs tabellās factās cērā. ita vērō. nōs tabellās mentium habēmus. putāsne nōs portātūrōs tabellās factās cērā? minimē! Caecilius semper dīcit, 'portāte tabellās vestrās in mentibus vestrīs, ō clientēs meī! sīc nēmō potest tabellās vestrās dē vōbīs capere!'"

 

custōs oculōs latē aperit. vultus dīcit, "nōn intellegō, sed timeō!"

 

vōce dīcit custōs, "intrāte, ō domine et domina!"
