Gaius Valerius Catullus, Carmen 62.11-19

The young men acknowledge that the women have been diligently preparing and that victory will not come easily — they must focus their minds if they hope to keep up.

(pueri dicunt) facilis victoria non parata est nobis, amici: aspicite, puellae meditatae sunt (have practiced).

 

puellae non frustra meditantur: puellae habent quod memorabile sit; nec mirum est, quia puellae tota mente diligenter laborant.

 

nos pueri mentes nostras alio divisimus, nos pueri aures nostras alio divisimus; scilicet non vincemus: victoria amat curam.

 

itaque nunc, convertite animos vestros; iam dicent, iam necesse erit nobis respondere.

 

o Hymenaee Hymen, veni o Hymenaee Hymen!
