Gaius Valerius Catullus, Carmen 61.114-133

Boys are commanded to join in the wedding rituals, and the favored boy slave, the concubinus, is urged to distribute nuts to the children — a traditional part of the Roman wedding ceremony.

Tier 1

o pueri, tollite faces:

video nuptam venire.

cantate una

'io Hymenaee Hymen'

age ride,

et permitte concubinum, qui domino suo paret, dare nuces pueris.

da nuces pueris, tarde concubine!

tempus longum lusisti nucibus: placet iam servire Hymenaeo.

concubine, da nuces.

usque ad nunc, feminae rusticae erant sordidae tibi, concubine:

nunc tonsor capillos ab ore tuo secat.

o miser concubine, da nuces.
