Gaius Valerius Catullus, Carmen 61.1-15

An invocation of Hymenaeus, the god of marriage, opening the wedding ritual with instructions to the deity to come and preside over the ceremony.

Tier 1

tu qui habitas in monte musarum, filius Uraniae,

qui portas teneram virginem ad virum,

o Hymenaee Hymen;

Hymen, cinge caput tuum floribus amaraci (of marjoram),

laete cape flammeum (bridal veil), veni huc, gerens calceum flavum in pede albo tuo;

vocatus laeto die, cane nuptialia carmina, cum nobis, voce clara tua,

pulsa humum pedibus, quate facem manu.
