Publius Ovidius Naso, Amores 1.15.9-18

Ovid describes various poets that will live on through their works (part 1 of 2).

 

Tier 1

Homeros (poeta Graecus qui Iliad narravit) vivet dum Tenedos (parva insula prope Troiam) et Mons Ida stabunt, dum Simois (parvus fluvius prope Troiam) rapidas aquas in mare movet.

 

et Hesiod (poeta Graecus qui Works and Days scripsit) vivet dum uva fermentatur, dum frumentum (Ceres) cadet sectum curva falce.

 

Callimachus (poeta Graecus qui Catullum, Ovidium et alios inspiravit) semper cantabitur toto orbe, quamvis Callimachus non fortis est natura, fortis est arte.

 

Sophocles (poeta Graecus qui Oedipus Rex scripsit) famosus remanebit; Aratus (poeta Graecus famosus in tempore antiquo neque hodie) erit cum sole et luna;

 

Menander (poeta Graecus Novae Comoediae) erit dum falsus servus, durus pater, improba lena (ea quae prostitutas vendit) et prostituta vivent;
