Publius Ovidius Naso, Amores 1.1.21-30

Ovid says that Cupid shot Ovid and so now he must write love poetry.

interrogabam, cum statim ille puer legit sagittam e pharetra in mortem meam, et sinuosum arcum fortiter flexit genu, et dixit, "accipe opus quod canas, poeta!"

 

me miserum! ille puer habuit rectas sagittas. ardeo, et Amor regnat in vacuo corde.

 

opus surgat mihi sex numeris, in quinque cadat: valete ferrea bella cum vestris modis!

 

Musa gere circum aurea tempora litorea myrto, scribe carmina quae undecim pedes habent.
