P. Ovidius Naso, Metamorphoses 8.637–650

The scene moves inside the cottage, into a close and unhurried description of a humble kitchen at work: the hearth and its fire, the stores hung from the rafters, and the garden's greens.

dī ad casam parvam vēnērunt. iānua humilis erat; deī itaque capita dēmīsērunt et intrāvērunt. senex sedīle posuit et deōs invītāvit ut sedērent. Baucis textum rude super sedīle posuit.

 

tum Baucis cinerem in focō movit. ignēs hesternī adhūc ibi erant. Baucis foliīs et corticibus ignēs excitāvit, et flammās fēcit. tum rāmōs āridōs ē tēctō dētulit et frēgit; ligna parva sub vās parvum posuit.

 

Philemon in hortō holus collēgerat. Baucis folia ē holere abscīdit. tum Philemon furcā carnem porcī dē tignō nigrō sūmpsit. illa carō diū ibi pependerat. Philemon parvam partem dē carne secuit et in aquā ferventī posuit.
