P. Ovidius Naso, Metamorphoses 4.55–70

This tale is set in Babylōn, the city walled long ago by its queen Semīramis, where the poet introduces two young neighbors, Pyramus and Thisbē.

Tier 1

Pyramus et Thisbē in eādem urbe habitābant. Pyramus iuvenis erat pulcherrimus. Thisbē puella erat pulcherrima. domūs eōrum proximae erant. urbs autem erat Babylōn, ubi Semīramis ōlim mūrōs altōs fēcerat.

Pyramus et Thisbē prope habitābant. itaque sē cognōvērunt. tempore amor crēvit. coniugēs esse voluērunt, sed patrēs eōs prohibuērunt. tamen ambō pariter amābant. patrēs hunc amōrem prohibēre nōn potuērunt.

nēmō hoc sciēbat. Pyramus et Thisbē sōlīs oculīs et manibus loquēbantur. amor cēlātus magis crēscēbat.

mūrus inter duās domōs erat commūnis. in mūrō rīma erat. amantēs hanc rīmam prīmī vidērunt. per rīmam vōcī iter fēcērunt. saepe verba dulcia per rīmam mittēbant, sed nēmō audiēbat.
