Quintus Horatius Flaccus, Epodes 16.35-48

In this passage, Horace calls on the virtuous to leave Rome behind and sail past the Etruscan shores into the surrounding Ocean, seeking the Blessed Islands — a paradise where the earth yields grain untilled, vines grow unpruned, olive branches never fail, and honey flows freely from hollow oaks. He dismisses the weak and hopeless as fit only for their ill-omened beds, reserving his call for those with courage enough to go.

Tier 1

Omnis civitas dicta haec et quae poterunt dividere nos a reditu, eamus omnis civitas aut pars melior stulto grege;

Mella manant ex cavo robure, aqua levis desilit montibus altis crepante pede.
