Gaius Valerius Catullus, 116 "To Gellius: The Last Word"

Catullus was going to make amends with Gellius, but sees there is no point.

saepe requirebam te studioso animo meo ut possem dare carmina Battiadae (Callimachus) tibi,

 

ut facerem te laetiorem ad me, et ne tu mitteres tua hostilia tela in caput meum,

 

nunc video hunc laborem esse frustra mihi, Geli,

 

et video preces nostras non validos fuisse hic.

 

ego movebo me ab ista tela tua iacta contra me

 

sed tu dabis poenam, mea tela te figent.
