Catullus thinks that people are bad and trying to believe the best in them will hurt you.

omnia sunt sine grata, non bonum est facere benigne,

 

immo malum est tibi;

 

ut mihi, quem nemo urget tam gravius

 

quam qui modo habuit me unum et solum amicum.
