P. Vergilius Maro, Aeneid 1.102-123

Tier 2

Aenēās clamat haec verba. ferōx ventus, quī venerat Aquilōne, ferit adversa vēlum. ventus quoque tollit flūctūs ad sīdera. rēmī franguntur et nāvis āvertitur ā undīs. tunc mōns ingēns aquae īnsequitur. virī pendent in summō flūctū; virī possunt videre terram inter flūctūs. tōtum mare furit harēnīs.

Notus torquet trēs nāvēs in saxa in mediīs fluctibus, quae saxa vocantur Arae; Eurus urget trēs nāvēs ab altō in brevia et syrtēs -- miserābile vīsū! -- atque cingit eās colle harēnae.

ingēns unda ferit ūnam nāvem, quae portābat Lyciōs et fīdum Orontēn, in puppim ante oculōs Aenēae: magister dēicitur in mare et flūctus torquet illam nāvem ter et rapidus vortex vorat aequore.

nantēs virī appārent in vāstō marī, arma virum, tabulae, et Trōïa gaza appārent per undās. iam tempestās vīcit nāvem Īlioneī, iam tempestās vīcit nāvem fortis Achātae, nāvem Abantis, et nāvem Alētī; omnēs nāvēs accipiunt inimīcam aquam et fatīscunt rīmīs.
