"You have come a long way, my friends," says a voice you know.
You turn, expecting Tertius. But the door behind you is still shut. How could Tertius have come into the chamber?
"Strange to see Sextus, isn't it? Yes. It is strange to me as well, that I should be here at all."
It is Sextus. Sextus, who was left behind in the ruin of Pompeii, hangs in the air before your eyes, and the lamplight passes through him.
He laughs at your faces. "Yes, my friends. You are looking at an image of Sextus, or his shade. I do not know which. I know only this: I am with you now. I died at Pompeii, and now I have come here, to Aegyptus, and how that can be I cannot tell you.
"But listen to me. I think our time is short, and we must make a plan for what comes next. That door will not hold Marcus forever, and I am afraid for Tertius. We have to learn where the Lapis is, because it is not here. And I will tell you one thing more. Mission Control is in the shadows too, just as you are in the shadows here."
The image of Sextus passes through you and stops beside the aureus. "Marcus Antonius and Octavianus," he says. He says nothing more.
