Episode 12.2.b
>The Plains of Cannae, Italy, August 2nd, 216 BCE<
You keep to one side. One commander is talking with a military tribune while you speak with the other. Then the first commander comes back.
"This is the hour," he says, and his voice is flat. "I'm going to my place." He mounts his horse and rides toward the battle.
The other commander looks at you. "We have the numbers, at least," he says. "If our men drive straight at the Lapis, this business will be finished. But I'll tell you the truth: Hannibal frightens me."
He too mounts and rides toward the battle.
The number of soldiers is beyond anything you have seen, and their discipline is beautiful. Tribunes shout; centurions carry the orders down the lines. The sound of all that iron is the sound of an army as you know it from films and games.
Tertius appears at your side without warning, a sword in his hand.
"They nearly killed me!" he says. "What happened? Mission Control worked out that you were in a training and sent me after you.
"We have to act. The Demiurge is still anxious. What dragged you here? Nobody knows. So Mission Control wants to hear the whole battle through your eyes. Choose a place in the Roman army, and tell the battle from there. Watch Hannibal above everything: we believe he keeps the Lapis close beside him."
