C. Plinius Caecilius Secundus, Epistulae 10.7

Trāiānus replies to Plīnius regarding the additional grant requested in 10.6. He notes the imperial precedent on Alexandrian citizenship, agrees to make an exception, and asks for one further detail before writing to the prefect of Egypt.

cīvitātem Alexandrīnam nōn facile dō. hic mōs imperātōrum est. ego igitur quoque hunc mōrem servō.

sed tū iam cīvitātem Rōmānam Arpocrātī, medicō tuō, ā mē impetrāvistī. itaque dabō tibi etiam hoc quod rogās.

hoc tamen prīmum facere dēbēs. dīc mihi: ex quā regiōne Aegyptī Arpocrās est? hoc scīre dēbeō. tunc epistulam ad Pompeium Plantam, praefectum Aegyptī et amīcum meum, scrībam et tibi mittam.
