C. Valerius Catullus, Carmen 68.109–118

Catullus measures Laodamia's love against an image from the labors of Hercules: a deep pit near Pheneus in Arcadia. Hebe, the goddess of youth, also appears.

Tier 1

prope Pheneum locus altus in terrā est.

Herculēs ōlim montem frēgit et locum altum fēcit. aqua in eum locum cecidit, et ager bonus factus est.

tum Herculēs tēlō certō animālia Stymphālia interfēcit. dominus malus hoc eī imperāvit. ita Herculēs posteā deus factus est;

Hēbē diū virgō nōn erat.

sed amor tuus altior erat quam locus ille. tū lībera erās; amor tē iugum ferre docuit.
